Lancaster Contra began organising dances in February 2023.
We currently intend to have 3 a year with live music, usually on a Saturday afternoon so it gives people the opportunity to travel without requiring a late night or having to organise accommodation and because it’s more family friendly.

Entry
With the number of dancers we are getting the previously suggested minimum donation of £10 will not go anywhere near covering the cost of the hall and related expenses for live music events. If you are able to support us by contributing more than this it would be greatly appreciated. Contras generally cost at least £15 per attendee to arrange, assuming good attendance (average £120 per caller and musician plus hall and insurance).
We will receive support from Lancashire Folk if there is a loss over the whole academic (2025-26) year. While we really appreciate that this allows us to make more adventurous plans (i.e. not operating by only paying some musicians and callers) making a loss isn’t really what we want to do, and there is a limit to how much they will contribute which we have exceeded in 2025-26.

We would prefer electronic payment before you arrive. You can do this online with your card, Apple pay, or Google pay at https://settleup.starlingbank.com/judith-hunter-439244. If this doesn’t work you can also use BACS to sort code 83-06-08 account 21565833 BUT we get charged for this so the other is preferable.

We plan to be able to provide the online webpage for you to enter your card details at the door but this won’t be instant so would prefer you to pay in advance rather than have a queue. We also wouldn’t want anyone to turn up at the door and find the venue was full so it’s in everyones interest to do it in advance.
If you can’t pay electronically by one of the above methods we will be able to accept cash on the door but will not have facilities to give change.
